Terms of Use
Last updated October 22, 2026
The short version. FinestIQ is a quick reference to the publicly available Department Manual. It can be wrong, so always check the cited pages before you act. It is not legal advice and not an official department source. Your account is for you alone, and heavy use is kept fair.
These terms are an agreement between you and FinestIQ (“FinestIQ”, “we”, “us”) for using the website at finestiq.app and the FinestIQ apps (the “service”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use FinestIQ.
1. What FinestIQ is, and what it isn’t
- FinestIQ answers questions using the Patrol Guide and Administrative Guide as published on nyc.gov, and shows the manual pages each answer cites.
- FinestIQ is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or speaking for the City of New York or the New York City Police Department, and it is not an official source of policy.
- Answers are written by artificial-intelligence models and can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. The official manual, your department’s current orders and your supervisors always come first. Verify procedures before acting, especially in situations involving safety, use of force, arrests or legal obligations.
- FinestIQ does not give legal advice, and using it does not create any attorney-client or other professional relationship.
2. Your account
- You must be 18 or older. Give accurate information and keep your password and devices secure.
- Your account is personal: don’t share it or let others use it. We may limit how many devices are signed in at once and may suspend accounts that appear to be shared.
- You’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else used it.
3. Using FinestIQ fairly
Please don’t:
- Put personal, case or confidential information about other people (for example names, addresses or case details) into your questions.
- Copy the service in bulk, scrape it, use automated tools to send questions, or try to get around limits or security.
- Use FinestIQ for anything unlawful, to harass anyone, or in a way that could harm the service or other users.
- Resell or redistribute the service or its answers as your own product.
Fair use. To keep FinestIQ affordable for everyone, plans include monthly amounts of answers. During very heavy use, some answers may come from our faster model, and in rare cases you may be asked to slow down or wait until your next cycle. Read-aloud works the same way: after a plan’s monthly amount, your phone’s own voice reads answers.
4. Plans and payments
When paid plans are available:
- Subscriptions bought in the iPhone app are billed by Apple, and those bought on our website are billed by our payment processor (Stripe). Prices and what each plan includes are shown before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time: in your Apple ID settings for purchases made through Apple, or from your account page for purchases on our website. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds for purchases through Apple follow Apple’s policies. For website purchases, contact us and we’ll handle requests fairly and as the law requires.
- We may change prices or plans; changes apply from your next renewal, and we’ll tell you before then.
- Complimentary accounts we give away may have an end date and may be changed or ended at our discretion.
5. The manual and our content
The Department Manual is a public document published by the City of New York; FinestIQ shows its pages unaltered. The FinestIQ name, design, software and the way answers are organized belong to FinestIQ. You may use answers for your own work and share them as the app allows.
6. Suspending or ending access
You can stop using FinestIQ and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, puts the service or others at risk, or that we’re required to end by law. We may also change or stop parts of the service; if we stop a paid service, we’ll handle any unused paid time fairly.
7. Disclaimers
FinestIQ is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted or error-free, or fit for any particular purpose, and we disclaim all implied warranties.
8. Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, FinestIQ will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any decision or action taken based on an answer. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
9. General
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
- If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
- We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and for important changes we’ll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use FinestIQ after that means you accept the new terms.
